We analyzed a series of 22 previously published mattress ratings from more than 160 participants across multiple regions of Australia. We found that the overall average rating was 3.8, of which 2.9 was for satisfaction and 2.9 for comfort, or sapphire. (Not a sapphire.)
The Sapphire Mattress Reviews tended to be generally positive, with frequent comments about the softness of the mattress and how comfortable it is to lie on.) When we asked participants to rate the bed in terms of quality and worthiness, participants mostly felt like the comfort rating of 4.5 was appropriate for a bed they slept on for long periods.
Although the average sapphire score was only slightly higher than the average for a latex mattress (3.7), sapphire mattresses were rated more highly than mattresses with a low-quality, or daisy-chain, pattern. In fact, only two mattresses with normal diameters scored more than three stars overall.
Of the sapphire mattresses included in the analysis, nearly half (12) had ratings of 3.5 or 4.0 (the highest rating). The average was also slightly higher, at 3.6.
Why do we pay more for higher quality?
The obvious reason for the high-quality rating is that Sapphire Mattress Reviews are more expensive than latex mattresses and they are marketed as such. Several of the best-known suppliers of sapphire mattresses in Australia offer much higher prices than their competitors, with retailers claiming a price premium of about 20%.
We asked 24 mattress providers about pricing their own mattresses, and not all responded, but 19 claimed that their high-quality mattresses were expensive and that they had never offered a lower price. Most commented on the high cost of manufacturing sapphire mattresses.
Two Mattress Providers
Two mattress providers offered a range of prices for different sizes of mattresses, based on the dimensions of their mattresses, from a range of thicknesses (200mm to 700mm) and we gathered feedback from participants about which size felt more like a real sapphire and which did not.
